Paintings by Sharon Himes celebrate the natural world with timeless images of wildflowers, country scenes and familiar birds. A serious naturalist, much of her art reflects observation of flora and fauna in the Pocomoke Forest near her home on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Her paintings of wildflowers, shy birds, colorful mushrooms and other woodland treasures have been widely collected for over 30 years.

Flirtation

The hummingbirds return in time for the blueberry blossoms in the spring.  In no time the males are flashing their bright colors to attract the attention of a female and no doubt the females have their own way of flirting.  Love is in the air!

White Peony

2110Painting flowers in mid winter is a joy.  With this peony I was experimenting with some new acrylic glazing medium to develop sun and shadow colors in a sunlit flower.

The original painting is only 8×8″ on a aquamedia panel with fluid acrylics.  It will be delivered to a gallery in a few weeks.
